Population, Urbanization, & Sustainability
After reading this week's topic on Population, Urbanization, & Sustainability I learned how these three interact with one another. Urbanization is present in the Bay Area every year, whether it's new housing developments or more cars on the road. It seems like there are more and more people, which is directly related to the stress on resources we've been learning about.
I learned that cities can be both a answer and a problem. By having more people living in cities means more trash, pollution, and energy use, but cities can work better if there are certain things made accessible and mainstream. Ways that are already environmentally friendly are taking the bus or train places and building homes that use less energy. It put the thought into my mind on how important it is to plan for better systems in the future to lessen the impact on people.
Population growth changes everyday life in small ways, like when it's hard to find parking or when there are more people in line at stores. Sustainability isn't just a problem for the whole world; it's something we all have to deal with every day.
This topic helped me understand how hard it is to protect the environment while also letting people grow. In order to be successful both the people and the government need to change. Spreading awareness and being aware is the first step, and I think that's the most important thing to learn.
